Samsung UN40D6000: Read Before Buying

The Samsung UN40D6000 is an impressive 40″ LED Backlit LCD TV that offers a lot of great features at a very attractive price point. The Samsung UN40D6000 retails for around $1,000 but on Amazon has been sold for as little as $887.

The Samsung UN40D6000 provides excellent HD quality picture and performance; the only issues with this flat screen tv come in the non HD mode.

  • Super Thin and Light Design. The Samsung UN40D6000 is barely a shadow on your wall, like a seamless portal into HD movies. Extremely lightweight, only 24 lbs for a 40 inch screen.
  • The Stand isn’t cheap. Some other LCD TVS deliver the goods but then include a wobbly stand. The Samsung UN40D6000 stand is sturdy and still, so you have a great option even if you don’t use a flat screen tv wall mount.
  • Great colors, blacks, contrast. The HD picture is phenomenal, colors are even and realistic at 1080p Full HD.
  • 120 Hertz processor for HD signals; excellent fast motion no blur images for action movies, sports, and more
  • Internet connectivity for Netflix, Blockbuster, Pandora, Flickr, and more
  • Samsung Internet Apps. Search for movies, music, apps online with Smart Hub; apps built for use on your flat screen TV. Update Facebook and Twitter, ESPN sports scores, TV Programming from Hulu, more
  • Value. Reasonably priced for all these features.

Samsung UN40D6000 Cons

  • The biggest weakness is with non HD Signals. Blacks are less crisp and the shadow detail is lacking in these standard def images.
  • Motion issues with non HD. On the one hand, the 120HZ processor eliminates natural background blur. But on the other hand, there’s no way to control the “judder”. (“Judder” is what happens when your TV has trouble processing and interpreting a low quality signal. It can lead to bumpy pictures. This doesn’t happen for long periods of time, but it can be annoying. Beyond that, the non HD picture is excellent with nice detail, contrast, color and brightness.
None of these images problems presented themselves with the Samsung UN40D6000 High Definition picture. We don’t recommend that you even bother with the TV’s built in “LED Motion Plus” feature, it won’t make much of a difference; it’s already very good in High Def.

The Samsung UN40D6000 has more than 200 customer reviews on Amazon with an average 4 out of 5 star rating. Reviews tend to reflect what we’ve mentioned here. Excellent image quality, some initial motion problems with the non HD picture. But most customers indicate that after a few hundred hours of use the Judder motion issues go away. Audio is also not discussed as a high point, but adding speakers or changing the audio setting to SRS TruSurround definitely helps.

Overall this flat screen tv is a good value on a quality 40″ for under $1000 with a majority of positive customer feedback. It’s also in the top 300 of bestsellers on Amazon, not shabby for a high priced item like a flat screen. Make sure you are going to be watching primarily HD programming or Blu Ray DVDs with the Samsung UN40D6000, and you will be satisfied.
